How hourly pay becomes a paycheck

Your weekly pay is your hourly wage times your hours, plus overtime at 1.5 times your wage. Federal law requires that overtime rate for hours over 40 in a workweek for most hourly workers (US Department of Labor). Your yearly pay is your weekly pay times 52, split evenly across your paychecks.

Example: $25 an hour for 40 hours plus 5 overtime hours is $1,000 + $187.50 = $1,187.50 a week, or $2,375.00 every two weeks. In Philadelphia that paycheck takes home $1,828.88, after $546.12 in taxes, including $88.71 of Wage Tax.

Pennsylvania taxes every hour the same way: the state takes a flat 3.07%, and your local earned income tax is the higher of your home rate and the non-resident rate where you work. The local services tax, usually $52 a year, is split across your paychecks by the place you work.
